Playing with cousins

The day before Caleb's accident, we were up at Nana and Papa's playing with our cousins. We went for a hike. There were 7 boys ages 8 and under. Craziness!!!! All the boys loved the big rocks.
The two Carters. My Carter thinks that it is so awesome that he has a cousin named Carter.

Braden and Carter

The Patten Family. We loved having them here and playing with them.

The Amidon Family sans Kurt. (Someone has to work hard for the money!)

Beckett slept through most of the adventure.

Aaron took out all the boys (except Beckett) on the canoe. He didn't have paddles, so he had to use long sticks.

They loved it. Kudos to Aaron for braving it out there with all the little boys!

Running back through the grave yard to go back to Nana and Papa's.

Halloween

Yes, I know it is December. But this was such a huge day for us. We didn't think that Caleb would be able to go trick or treating with us. We were so excited that he could.
Carter was Leonardo, the ninja turtle. Braden, spider man. We pushed Caleb in the jogging stroller. He didn't want to put on his costume. We were fine with that, we were just loving that he was with us!!!
Braden getting the concept of trick or treating.

Follage

I am playing catch up with all our pictures. I love the fall follage here in New England. I love it even more when looking out the window today and it is snowing!!

Losing teeth

Caleb lost another tooth. This is his 5th or 6th. I can't keep track.

Pictures

Kurt thought it would be cute to take a picture of Beckett and me sleeping. Kurt thought it was funny that I was passed out on the couch. This is what happens after a long day with the boys. Can you blame me?

Caleb ~ a short glimps

Here are just a few pictures of Caleb's four weeks. I will put more up later.

This is the 2nd or 3rd day we were in the ICU. After the probes came off.

Week 2 - The breathing tube finally came out.
Carter's birthday. The whole family back together again after 2 long weeks. Caleb awake enough to see everyone.

Week 3

Caleb's first meal with the family, down in the cafeteria.

Caleb, back with a stick in hand. (You should have known that wouldn't have taken too long!)

I love to see that smile!

Week 4 - At Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center.

Playing around during physical therapy.

Walking out of rehab to head home, exactly 4 weeks after the accident. (Amazing, since the doctors thought it might take him months to start walking again.)

Caleb comes home

The day that Caleb came home, we had a couple of friends over to celebrate with cake and ice cream.
Thanks Dad, Carter and Aunt Chelsea for the beautiful Welcome Home signs!!!

Caleb Update

Yes, I know that I have horrible at keeping up my blog. I feel that life just never slows down. I thought that once we got Caleb home that we would be able to take a breather, but not the case.
Many of you have already seen Caleb and know how well he is doing, so for the ones that have not, this is for you.
Caleb is doing good. He is back at school part time. We are going to try school full time after Thanksgiving. Caleb is doing in school therapies (PT, OT and Speech), we are also doing out patient physical therapy with him. His right side is still a lot weaker then the left. His left ankle
is really tight and needs a lot of work. His thought process is doing better all the time, but sometimes it is still a little delayed.
Caleb gets really tired at school, especially when he does a lot of thinking. He will start working with a tutor after Thanksgiving, to work with him on all the things that he missed while he was out.
Everything is all coming together, but it still is going to take a while to get him back to 100%. But, it is wonderful having him back home and to see his old self coming back. He loves to joke around and be silly. He has been wrestling around and playing with his brothers (along with fighting with them, I guess you have to take the good with the bad!). I love seeing his smile and his whole face just light up again.
Caleb has been back out on the ice practicing with his teams. It really is mental therapy for him. He loves being out there. He feels just as comfortable on skates as he does walking. He looks great out there, he is slowly getting back to what he was.
I am hoping to get some good pictures up of Caleb and the boys, but I have been saying that for a while. I just never can find the time to sit at the computer that long. I think that it has to do something with having 4 boys constantly on the go!!!!

Caleb is Home!!!

Our sweet boy is finally home after 4 long weeks!!! We are so happy. This will be the first night that our whole family will sleep under the same roof in a month. The younger boys were so happy to see Caleb today. They came running out of the house to give him hugs. We had a couple friends over today to celebrate him being home. Then Kurt took him to his hockey practice tonight. Yes, I know, CRAZY!! But Caleb did awesome, he looked really good. He is still not up to speed of what he was, but he could still skate. I was very impressed. A little nervous at times, though. I think this was great mental therapy for Caleb. He had a smile almost the whole time he was out there. He knows that he has to be very careful and not bang his head. If you were to see Caleb walking down the street, you would have no idea what he has just gone through. He is an amazing kid. It truly is a miracle. If you think about it, he was in a coma 2 1\2 weeks ago and only 2 weeks since he was taken off the heavy sedations, and now he is up and running.
All the therapist at Crotched Mountain were amazed by Caleb and how fast he was impoving. We were only there a week, and he made huge progress. We as parents could see it daily. All the doctors thought it would take months of intensive rehab til he would be able to walk and come home. No one thought he would be home and doing this well.
Caleb was happy to come home, but I think that he is going to miss his therapist. They were so good to him, he had fun at all his sessions. (I also think that Caleb will be missed up there also, they seemed to have a lot of fun with Caleb. I don't think that they get a lot of patients who giggle during there therapy sessions!) Now he will just be stuck at home with boring mom. Being up at Crotched Mountain really was a great experience for our family. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs inpatient rehab (hopefully you don't though).
Caleb will start to go back to school next week. Not full time though. He will just be going for a couple of hours for the first while. We don't think that he will go back full time til after Thanksgiving. He will still have Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapies for a while. Even though he is going great, he still has his work cut out for him. It is going to still take a lot of time and work to get him to 100%, but he can do it. Caleb is a very determined little guy.
I just want to say Thank You again to everyone for everything. I can't even begin to tell you how much we appreciate what everyone has done for us. If I sit and think about it, it becomes very overwhelming. I can't believe how generous everyone has been. So, THANK YOU!!!!!!

Tim Thomas

Tim Thomas came to the hospital to visit Caleb last week. We were all so excited. I still can't believe that he came, it was so sweet of him. We bought a ton of Bruins things for him to sign while we was there. We bought shirts for the boys to wear. (FYI: For those of you who don't know who Tim Thomas is, he is the Goalie for the Boston Bruins. He is Caleb's favorite player.) He was great and let us take a ton of pictures. He was so nice to all my boys. He let Caleb go out in the hall and shoot at him a couple of times. Caleb was able to get one shot past him. Way to go Caleb! It was a fun night for all of us!
